TWIN LAKES STATE PARK WEST
TWIN LAKES STATE PARK WEST
If you want a quiet spot to toss a line into North Twin Lake, head over to the west side of the park. It's simple. Most folks show up for the walleye and crappie fishing. The lake spans 453 acres, which means you have plenty of room to launch a kayak or fish off the dock. Bring extra hooks. You'll see local anglers lining the bank by 600 AM, drinking cheap gas station coffee and waiting on channel catfish to bite. They know the good spots. But you don't even need a fishing rod to enjoy being out by the water.
The grounds give you a real break from routine. Big shade trees cover the lawn. You get a sturdy stone shelter from the 1930s, perfect for hauling out a cooler and eating sandwiches in the shade. No wild crowds. Just open grass, picnic tables, and a steady breeze blowing off the lake. Kids can kick a soccer ball around while parents get ten minutes of actual quiet. Honestly, it's just a solid, old-school Iowa park.
